Scoot Wheel N Move June 2007 meeting

Published by Alex Makin on Friday 1st of June, 2007

Scoot Wheel N Move is a Maroondah Council initiative that aims to improve accessibility for people with mobility aids. Scoot Wheel N Move meets on a monthly basis and is open to all members of the community.

This morning’s meeting included the MetroAccess worker from Knox Council and a number of joint events between Knox and Maroondah are being planned for Community Safety Month in October.

The meeting also provided an update on the Scoot Wheel N Move ReCharge Program. This program encourages businesses to provide recharge facilities to allow people with mobility aids to recharge their scooter or wheelchair in the safety and comfort of a local shop. All supporting businesses are supplied with a sticker to identify their support for people that use eclectic mobility aids.

Eligible businesses need to be accessible and provide a power socket free of charge. A number of businesses across Maroondah’s shopping areas have already agreed to support the ReCharge program and it is hoped that more will follow in coming months.
