The Eastern Transport Coalition consists of seven outer eastern metropolitan councils (Maroondah, Knox, Whitehorse, Yarra Ranges, Manningham, Monash and Greater Dandenong) and is a regional based advocacy group that lobbies for better public transport in Melbourne’s outer east.

The Eastern Transport Coalition meets on a monthly basis to discuss the transport priorities of the region and to further its advocacy for public transport. I have been Maroondah’s delegated representative on the Eastern Transport Coalition since my election in November 2005 and have been re-appointed as the delegate for 2008.

I have served as the Deputy Chair of the Eastern Transport Coalition and was re-elected into this role for 2008.

G’day Alex, wellwe have had two weeks to bask in the triumph of the Eastern Tollway’s succes or lack therof.

Why am I not surprised that the exit points are choked and the Governments response is to have a review of this situation, that will also take into account the observation by the people now using this piece of transport infrastructure that they have had their trip times increased by 20% due to congestion.

Hi David,

Certainly agree that EastLink has failed to meet the transport needs of the eastern region, particularly as petrol prices continue to increase.

Public transport improvements are required so as to provide an alternative to rising petrol prices and worsening traffic congestion. The Eastern Transport Coalition has had some success in securing public transport improvements, particularly in regard to the removal of zone three and bus upgrades but much more is required.

Thanks,

Alex
