The 2010 Mayoral Art Show

The Mayoral Art Show is an annual art event that supports the Croydon Branch of the Bone Marrow Donors Institute and the work it undertakes in the research of Cancer. The art show, which features 90 artists, includes promising and local artistic talents with a range of mediums.

The Mayor is able to acquire one of the pieces for the Maroondah Art Collection and I acquired a piece by Jazmina Cinina, a promising artist specialising in linocut and drawing upon her Lithuanian heritage and interest in werewolves.

The speech delivered for the opening is available within this entry:

Welcome to the 2010 Mayoral Art Show, I would like to acknowledge the presence of my fellow Council colleagues, Cr. Rob Steane, Cr Natalie Thomas and Cr Les Willmott.

I would also like to provide the acknowledgement of country, Maroondah City Council, in the spirit of reconciliation, acknowledges that we are meeting on the land for which the Wurundjeri people have been custodians for many centuries, and on Land which the indigenous Australians have performed age old ceremonies.

The 2010 Mayoral Art Show is sponsored by East Ringwood Bendigo Bank with all proceeds made to the Bone Marrow Donors Institute, Croydon Branch to aid research into leukaemia. Each year outstanding artworks are exhibited and we have 90 pieces exhibited at this year’s exhibition.

I would like to thank Alan Somers, from the Bone Marrow Donors Institute and the artists who have entered the exhibition, for it is their generosity and hard work that makes this an outstanding event.

The Mayoral Art Exhibition is an opportunity to support a prominent community cause, as well as appreciate the art that is on display. Please take the time to view the art on display at the exhibition and encourage friends and family to experience the artistic talents that are on display.

Exhibition opening hours are extended especially for the Mayoral Art Show, which will be open Monday from 10am to 4pm as well as the usual Tuesday to Friday 10am to 4pm and Saturday 12noon to 4pm. The 2010 Mayoral Art Show will be held until the 11th of December.
