AGM 2025: Port Melbourne Historical and Preservation Society

The Port Melbourne Historical and Preservation Society exists to foster interest in the history of Port Melbourne and preserve relevant items of historical interest.

The Society meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month, with tonight’s meeting incorporating its Annual General Meeting, as well as a guest speaker discussing the history of Victoria’s railways from a governance and organisational perspective.

The presentation discussed the context behind the Melbourne and Hobsons Bay Railway (which built and operated the Port Melbourne and St Kilda rail lines) and Victorian Railways.

Discussion on transport remains as timely as ever, with the need for rail investment in Fishermans Bend (part of Port Melbourne) to catalyse its urban renewal.
