Planning Committee: July 2025

Council meetings on the fourth Wednesday are dedicated to planning matters, hearing applications that have been brought before Councillors.

Tonight’s planning committee considered three planning applications, including one in Princes Street, Port Melbourne.

Planning outcomes are often a balancing act between applicant aspirations and community sentiments within the parameters of Victoria’s planning system.

I am of the view that planning outcomes are improved when applicants and our community is able to share their views.

Tonight’s consideration of Princes Street led to improvements in the design of the application and increased tree canopy, reinforcing the important role of Council in shaping planning outcomes.

While it is easy for the State Government to restrict community and council’s role in planning applications, community involvement in planning ultimately leads to better outcomes.
