TWiSK: Call to Fix 606 Bus

This Week in St Kilda (TWiSK) is an independent online media publication covering topics relevant to the City of Port Phillip.

The community led petition calling for upgrades to bus route 606, was covered in the weekly edition, reinforcing the importance of this bus service in connecting people across the City of Port Phillip.

Cr Makin said, ‘This is a service that connects not only major activity centres, but schools, other recreational and employment opportunities across this route.’

‘This is a service that is woefully inadequate, does not meet the needs of our community, [and] does not meet the needs of our future community.’

It was not until 2024 that this bus route was provided with Sunday services, despite this bus route connecting Port Melbourne and Fishermans Bend to entertainment precincts like St Kilda. Half hourly services and a mere hourly frequency on weekends are not sufficient for a route that directly connects our community to schools, recreation and employment.

Thank you to the many community members that supported this petition, Council is voted unaminiously to support your voice and in advocating to the State Government for much needed improvements.
