This afternoon, alongside Cr Justin Haliday (Alma Ward) and Cr Beti Jay (South Melbourne Ward), I attended a film screening and public forum for SOLD! Who Broke the Australian Dream? organised by Southport Community Housing Group and Progressive Port Phillip.
The documentary outlined the history of Australia’s worsening level of housing affordability, with the public forum discussing actions that can be undertaken across all levels of Government.
The City of Port Phillip Homelessness and Affordable Housing Strategy aims to continue Council’s focus on improving housing security, through direct support to community housing provides, as well as advocacy for inclusionary zoning increase affordable and social housing.
Furthermore, Fishermans Bend provides an incredible opportunity to improve not only housing affordability, but access to local employment, if the State Government invested in the public transport infrastructure that is required to foster urban renewal and increased residential development.
The strong attendance to this film screening shows the ongoing community concern over housing affordability.
