Local Government Statement of Solidarity

Yesterday, I wrote to each of Mayor across all of Victoria’s local Councils inviting them to join the City Of Port Phillip and Glen Eira City Council in co-signing a joint statement to reaffirm solidarity between our Jewish community and local government.

Throughout today more Councils have committed their support. We now have a majority of Victorian Councils standing united against hate.

The list of Councils and the statement will be released shortly.

Tonight I was invited by Stephen Jolly the Mayor of Yarra City Council to address their Council meeting. Stephen Jolly was the first Mayor to reach out to City Of Port Phillip signalling their support for our joint statement.

After City of Yarra, I attended the Glen Eira City Council Meeting where Mayor Simone Zmood has invited me to address their Council and reinforce that we stand in solidarity with our Jewish Community. Thank you Cr Justin Halliday and Cr Serge Thomann for joining me in addressing Glen Eira City Council on behalf of City Of Port Phillip.

Together our two Councils reaffirmed our support for our Jewish community and led the sector in standing in solidarity.

Where City of Port Phillip and Glen Eira leads the sector follows. An overwhelming majority of councils across Victoria stand with us against hatred and antisemitism.
