Maroondah Journal: Community centre gets second wind

Central Ringwood Community Centre is located in Bedford Park in Ringwood and provides courses, as well as meeting space for community groups.  The Centre received a $200,000 grant to provide accessibility improvements and a new activity room through a partnership between Maroondah City Council and the Federal Government.

Cr Makin said the upgrades came as wonderful news for families of the 105 children who attended the centre’s playground each week and community groups who used the venue.

“They have given the centre a new lease on life and ensure that user groups will continue to enjoy high quality facilities.”

Central Ringwood Community Centre has a strong focus on social inclusion, including migrant communities and people with disabilities and the completed building improvements will assist in better meeting the needs of the Maroondah community.

Opening of Upgrades to Central Ringwood Community Centre

Central Ringwood Community Centre is located in Bedford Park in Ringwood and serves as a community based facility, providing courses, as well as meeting facilities for other groups. In recent years the Community Centre has had a strong focus on Maroondah’s emerging communities, through providing programs for refugees from Sudan, as well as Burma.

In addition, the Centre has maintained a number of programs for people with disabilities and accessibility is one of the core priorities for the staff and Committee of Management.  This morning I was invited to officially open the upgrades to Central Ringwood Community Centre, which provide accessibility improvements in the form of a new meeting room and accessible toilets and change facilities.

Central Ringwood Community Centre 2010 AGM

Central Ringwood Community Centre is a not-for-profit community organisation located within Bedford Park, Ringwood and provides a range of community courses, as well as facilities available for hire.

This afternoon I attended Central Ringwood Community Centre’s 2010 Annual General Meeting, which provided an opportunity to learn about the activities undertaken within the Centre. The Centre recently received funding through the Better Regions Program Funding, which has provided for accessibility improvements and a new activity room.

In addition Central Ringwood Community Centre is a partner in a project that aims to identify the needs of refugees from Burma, through identifying any gaps in existing services.  The project is due for completion in March 2011 and reinforces the Centre’s strong interest in Maroondah’s diverse community.
